Sep 20 () – England have withdrawn their men’s and women’s teams from next month’s tour of Pakistan, the country’s cricket board (ECB) said on Monday, three days after New Zealand pulled out of the his tour of the country due to security concerns.

The England teams were scheduled to play two Twenty20 internationals on October 13 and 14 in Rawalpindi, with the women’s team remaining for a three-match one-day international series from October 17-21.

“The ECB Board met this weekend to discuss these extra England Women’s and Men’s matches in Pakistan and we can confirm that the Board has reluctantly decided to withdraw both teams from the trip October,” the ECB said in a statement.

“The mental and physical well-being of our players and support staff remains our highest priority and this is even more critical given the times we currently live in.

“We know there is growing concern about travel in the region and believe that going forward will put more pressure on a gaming group that has already dealt with a long period of operations in restricted COVID environments.”

The ECB added that the men’s team touring in such conditions would not be ideal preparation for the Twenty20 World Cup which starts next month.

“We understand that this decision will be a huge disappointment for the PCB, which has worked tirelessly to welcome the return of international cricket to its country,” he added.

New Zealand Leave Pakistan Cricket In Despair

“We sincerely regret the impact this will have on cricket in Pakistan and emphasize a continued commitment to our main tour plans here for 2022.”

PCB chairman Ramiz Raja said he was disappointed with the ECB’s decision, but added that the Pakistan team “will survive”.

“Disappointed in England, pulled out of his commitment and left a member of his cricket association when he needed it most,” Raja wrote on Twitter.

“A wake up call for the Pakistan team to become the best team in the world for teams lining up to play without excuses.”
